I made these last night. I'm really happy with how they turned out, considering the most advanced things I've sewn in the last 10 years are the hats shown in a previous posts.
These shouldn't be scrutinized too closely though, hehe, but I'm off to make a new pair right now! The first time is only for learning, right?

Not many drawings lately, but a baby quilt! This is my first quilt ever, a real experiment:

First, I cut the fabrics with a knife. Super easy!

Then I used my 1976 sewing machine to assemble the pieces.
And here it is! But it still needs lining and padding (are these the right words?? Anyway, it needs to be finished..). Seems difficult, so I'm putting it off, hehe.

I'm working in France this fall, staying in a small appartment near the research institute where I work. I didn't have any TV, so a lady at work lent me one! This is the thank you-card I made.
My scanner didn't fit in my suitcase, but this way you get to see my nice table cloth and the golden thank you-gift that came with the card (containing the best dark French chocolate. Mmmmm..)!

Drifting is the perfect word for the way I feel right now. I finished my PhD (yey!) and like it or not, I will have to start something new. Thinking about this fresh start (finding a job or a post doc) automatically makes me think about other life choices (like when should we have kids, and where should we live in the future?) mixed with small every day joys (we got a new balcony! Plus we just got back from two weeks in France!) and problems (what flowers to plant on the balcony?) all mixed together in a big jumble. I'm confused. Drifting.

New year, new style!? Well I thought today would be the perfect day to try something different. You can't learn without trying something new, and I've always admired people who draw things in an "ugly but pretty" sort of style, so I gave it a try. I kind of like it. Will definitely try it some more.
Another great thing that recently happened is that I (well me and my lovely in-house engineer, hehe) finally found out how to scan things in my scanner without having the colors turning out all wrong. It was some stupid default setting that automatically changed the colors after scanning. It's probably supposed to be good for photo scanning or something but it definitely didn't work for me. But now I've found it and unchecked the little box, and finally I can scan color pencil drawings with an ok result! Wohooo!

It's just an old cardboard box that I dressed with wrapping paper inside and out..

..and then I crocheted a green monster and knitted a hat for him, and put him inside the box..

I wanted to challenge myself this time, trying harder, spending more time on the drawing, and trying something new. Here's the result! In stead of my usual color pencils I used water colors, and I just love how much nicer they scan!!! My technique needs a lot of work of course, but I've taken a first step! Still love my color pencils, but for scanning purposes they just don't work with me...

I love books, and I can't help myself when I go into a book store - the paperbacks are so cheap (especially in Sweden, I think), and there's always this "take 4 pay for 3" offer, so I tend to end up with (another) pile. I don't see this as a problem though, since I usually read them, unless they turn out to be boring/stupid/meaningless/too complicated/too non-complicated in which case they end up in some used book store...

This weeks theme was a real challenge since I never heard the word hoard before and it took me a while to figure it out, as some dictionaries just confused me even more. Think I got it now though, it's like "collect" only different, hrmmm...

Below is this drawing before I colored it, and even further down is the sketch i made first, at work waiting for an experiment to be finished so I could finally go home. It started as a sketch of me trying to figure out what "hoard" means, which is how I thought of the books.

I'm still having some problems with scanned colors, especially the bright ones. Tried to color the skin parts darker this time to avoid the problem I had here and I think it turned out a little better this time, but I'm still not happy and I don't know how to fix it in photoshop. Tried blurring but that just makes it look too digital. Any advice??

This scan did't turn out very well, at least not his face. In the actual drawing it's pretty bright and the color looks even but here it's much darker and uneven. If I try brightening it up in photoshop it just looks weird. The cake colors also look pretty strange, but I like the other, darker, colors. Any scanning tips, anyone?
